Recreational/Novice League

Navy is offering a new league on Sundays at 1pm.

This league is targeted on novice and inexperienced players. It's a non pressure environment to learn the game. Each session will cover strategy and etiquette, some work on form, some fun role playing, then actually putting into practice what has been learned by playing.

They will play about 16 games a year. Coaching / instructions will be provided weekly and we will be looking for volunteers to come out for one game during the season to help instruct.

A good opportunity exists for those "new to navy" members as the special membership rate still applies for this year. This allows them to also play in draw events, which will help the new members integrate into the game and leagues when their ready, at their own pace.

Testimonials from former students

  • I recently moved to Ottawa and decided to take up curling as my winter sport. Rather than attempt a "trial and error" approach as I have done in the past with skiing, I thought I would take advantage of an  "organized/instructional" approach to curling. I am convinced that this is the best way to learn this great sport.  I have to say that I am so fortunate to have joined the Royal Canadian Navy (RNC) curling club and their great novice league!

It has been a fantastic year in so many ways. I have learned various aspects of the sport and have progressed nicely in the skill of the game primarily because of the instructors who are so knowledgeable, patient and have a great sense of humor.  The club atmosphere is very welcoming/inclusive  (both on and off the ice).  The relaxed atmosphere at RCN makes it so ways to meet new people and make new friends. I'm sure it must be the friendliest club in Ottawa!

  • Great way to learn a new sport and meet new people.
  • Everyone at the Navy Club was so welcoming.
  • The instructors were great. Not only did they teach the basics of curling but them made sure we had fun and felt welcomed at the Club.
  • Got to love a sport that places so much emphasis on having fun!
  • I loved the Navy Club - friendly people, great  ice, lots of fun!
